Aeries Development

My name is Billy Lehman Goodyear, Principal of Aeries Investment Company, LLC (d.b.a. Aeries Development). I have loved architecture and design since childhood. I grew up in a development family (The Beverly Hills Hotel, Shutters and Casa Del Mar Hotels). My mother builds custom luxury homes in Bedford, New York where I grew up and I worked on her crews since childhood. Even my pursuit of the arts in the years after leaving university was rooted in a fascination with the creation of worlds.

By now I have been developing real estate professionally for more than 25 years. I am proud to have participated in the making of public buildings that have enhanced communities and influenced the culture of their cities and towns. In my career I’ve had the opportunity to serve the visions of many of the world’s most creative people – my clients and the design teams I’ve built around them. I have been most delighted, professionally, to have built dream homes for young families – spaces that encourage interaction and communication and help foster relationships which become, themselves, foundations for hopeful, productive lives.

Most recently I served as West Coast Vice President for Reis Contracting, the luxury home builder widely acknowledged to be New York’s best. Reis is a boutique and family-owned builder, with highest-end in-house millwork capability and a proprietary technology-based project delivery system that is leading the evolution of custom home building into the future.

Prior to joining Reis, I served on the Senior Leadership Team at Shawmut Design and Construction, a best-in-class builder of luxury homes, retail flagships, hotels, restaurants, sports and concert venues and large-scale civic and university buildings. Shawmut’s work includes the Apple Cube in New York, the Apple Tower Theater in Downtown Los Angeles (and virtually every Apple Store in the United States), the Nobu restaurants (including Nobu Malibu), Malibu’s Little Beach House and Nobu Ryokan Hotel, the Soho Warehouse in The Arts District here, The Hoxton Hotel, Pali House Silverlake, flagship buildings across all 14 LVMH brands, the Tom Ford and Ralph Lauren flagships, Thomas Keller and Danny Meyer’s restaurants, and many more buildings among Shawmut’s more than 650 completed projects each year. During my tenure, Shawmut grew to become a $1.7 Billion annual revenue business with an extraordinary culture. Shawmut is a 100% employee-owned company, named each year to Fortune and Forbes Magazine’s (as well as the Los Angeles Business Journal’s) Best Places to Work in the United States.

As Shawmut’s Director of Luxury Homes, I launched and managed a new Luxury Homes Division. Ultimately I became West Region Director, responsible for work across all business lines in every Western city (including San Francisco, Las Vegas, San Diego and Santa Barbara) that Shawmut serves.

Before joining Shawmut, I worked as an independent developer and project manager. My work included luxury single family and multi-family homes, condominiums, office buildings, sports stadia and restaurant and hotel projects. 

My renovation of Santa Anita Park won the Los Angeles Business Journal’s award for Development of the Year. I managed the design and build teams for the celebrated restaurant Felix Trattoria in Venice. My work has been featured in Santa Barbara Life & Style Magazine, Santa Barbara Magazine, Architectural Digest, AD Open Door, The Montecito Collection, Elle Décor, C Magazine, Angeleno Magazine, 
The Real Deal, Dirt, The Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, Architizer, Goop, Robb Report, Condé Nast Traveler, on CNN and on NBC’s Open House, among other media outlets. Los Angeles Architects has acknowledged me on its list of the Ten Best Luxury Builders in Los Angeles.

For years I served on the Global Education Advisory Board of Save The Children, helping steer that organization in the deployment of their school-building resources. My wife and I also raised the funds to build a primary school in Nanchengwa, Malawi and we traveled there to participate in construction of that school, making bricks with our hands. I’ve served on the board of the Center for Innovation Education at Rutgers University which teaches Customer Experience strategies in business, something I was closely identified with excellence in at Shawmut.

For certain projects, Aeries works in partnerships that include Story Company, LLC in Los Angeles and Harvester Group, LLC in Montecito.

I did my undergraduate work at Princeton University and my graduate work at Yale University and at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design where I studied Integrated Project Management. My own home is my favorite house in Los Angeles — a Spanish Colonial Revival designed by the great Alden Cusick.

I live in Pacific Palisades with my wonderful wife, son and daughter and a sweet dog named Nelly.
